How It All Began…
JKM Services first arrived on the scene with a different name – JKM Couriers. The original aim of the business was just that – courier work, notably pallets. For a lorry driver, this made the most amount of sense – the working knowledge of logistics, safe loading and transport planning was already there, and there were multiple platforms that promised a lot of potential.
It soon became clear, however, that it was not an area the business was going to thrive in. There was more stress than enjoyment, and these platforms only offered low pay, questionable service, and very limited options.
The first few jobs JKM Couriers took on were single item moves – picking up furniture and transporting it for customers. After hearing a ridiculous amount of horror stories about people not turning up, damaging property, taking their money and running, it became clear that what the local area really needed was someone who could be relied on to collect and deliver their Marketplace purchases with care and timeliness. A service for the general public, rather than a service for big businesses. And then, the first couple of house moves came along.
Rebrand
JKM Couriers soon rebranded as JKM Services, and we began adding more services to our portfolio. The business has grown steadily ever since, and we are seeing more and more new customers reach out to us due to recommendations and word of mouth. Even better, we have recently upgraded our van! It was sad to say goodbye to old red, but it was a much needed step forwards.
Say what you like about the horrors of social media, but without it this business would not exist. Or at least, not to the level it is today. We have had so many lovely reviews left on our Facebook page, which we can direct potential customers to. We also have a wonderful community supporting us – always engaging with our posts (especially the giveaways!), and tagging our business. We cannot thank them enough.
Looking ahead…
Originally, the long term plan of JKM Couriers was to have a fleet of lorries transporting both nationally and internationally. Today, however, our goal for the future is much different.
Looking ahead, the goal for JKM Services is to continue to grow steadily, ensuring we keep the same personal, family-run approach that our customers value. We pride ourselves on being honest, approachable and reliable, and we don’t want that to ever change. We love providing a service that allows customers to feel like they are speaking to real people who actually care about their move, delivery or assembly job – it’s not just about turning a profit!
Affordability will always be a cornerstone for us. Moving home, arranging item transport or getting practical help should not feel out of reach. We aim to keep our pricing fair, transparent and competitive, whilst still delivering a careful, reliable and professional service.
Our focus is on offering genuine value and positive experience, not cutting corners.
There are many other successful businesses out there that offer house removals and man-with-a-van services. However, there are many more that tarnish the industry’s reputation. Those who don’t turn up, don’t complete their job, or con customers out of money. Those who don’t look after personal property, don’t have insurance, and are nowhere to be seen when a problem arises.
We want JKM Services to play a positive part in improving the reputation of our wider industry, by showing customers how the work should be done, how they should be treated, and that they can trust us to be honest, reliable and hard working. Ultimately, we hope to show that smaller, independent businesses can provide just as high a standard (if not higher) of customer service and care as larger businesses.
In practical terms, we are building that reputation by asking customers for reviews, sharing completed work on our socials, keeping service information clear and up to date, and following up after each job to ensure our customers are satisfied. They may be small, but these consistent actions help to show new and potential customers what they can expect from JKM Services: careful work, honest communication, and a service that takes pride in doing things properly.
